Post Oil Breather Hose - 1980 SC

I have re-installed my engine after fitting a new clutch. My oil breather hose (from flame trap to oil tank) is perished/useless. I am trying to track one done in the UK but having put the engine back in, I am beginning to think that it will be VERY difficult to reconnect a new hose. Has anyone done this of know of an easy way to do it? I DO NOT want to take the engine out again!!

Not sure about an '80SC, but I discussed this yesterday, comparing a '78 and a '76.

The '78 hose is going to the CIS boot very much to the forward side of the engine and indeed is difficult to mount.
My 76 attaches it more to the rear end, coming out right under the air filter.
This hose is easy to replace.
Maybe its worth a swap?

The hose is not difficult to mount if you first loosen and remove the CIS boot. You can then mount the breather hose and tighten it down, and then replace the boot.

This will give you a little breathing room. Put a jack back up under the engine, release the two rear engine mounts and gently lower the engine a few inches. Watch carefully any hoses and especially the wiring harness so that you don't stretch and break a connection. Also keep an eye underneath at the oil lines. You should be able to get a grip on things. It may be a job done with more feeling than sight but it will work.

Thanks for these. CIS, is that the big black thing the air filter sits on? Altho the engine was sitting on the garage floor for a couple of months, I cant remember the exact location for the breather hose. Does anyone have a graphic of that end of the engine to show its exact position?

Part 19 is the hose in this diagram:

Its attached to the filler neck and the air filter on the other side. Pos. 25 in the following diag. is the flame trap to be in the hose right at the filter box:

Ok CONFUSED..BIG TIME...I was sure that the flame trap was at the rear(nearest rear seats) of the engine, out of view and a struggle to get at. It exits from the air filter and has a gauze ending on it!?!?!?! I can see no 25 at the side of the air filter...what am I thinking of then??

Try searching the diagrams for your car's year. Maybe its different? Someone else to reply? I don't have an SC handy to check. Just looked at this stuff last sunday as we were discussing this problem. This was an '78.

The breather hose attaches to the CIS boot at the forward side of the engine. That's why you get a vacuum leak when the oil cap is off, because it's on the other side of the CIS censor plate

Item #18 of this pic is the CIS boot.

You can easily remove the boot and see where the breather hose attaches.


That connection on the airbox goes to the charcoal cannister in the front for recirculating gas fumes.

Just went into this area last night. Pulled part number 18 (rubber boot) and for my '78 sc the flame trap is driver-side front of engine. Pull injector hoses gently from mounted rack and "hug" engine to get to flame trap hose on frontside engine.

I cannot believe how much CRAP there was in the 'boot. I had cleaned the sensor plate from within the airbox, but it took pulling the 'boot to really see the mess. I recommend this to anyone who is having idling problems, esp. where the Warm Up Regulator (WUR) might be suspect.

My assumption is overfilling, which I believe I am guilty of. I am hoping my actions have not yet fouled the Aux Air Regulator either. Sheesh.

Thanks for the info. I have ordered the part from the Porsche Main dealer and it was too expensive....20USD equivalent in the UK so get it next week and will put it in. Anyone in the UK with a spare oil tank ??
