Just had my three O put back in and my oil gauge (just right of my fuel gauge) is not responding. It does move a little but I’m not sure where it should read. Most of the time it’s in the red. My ‘druck gauge’ seems to work fine and my temp is at normal. I also checked my oil level and that’s okay. Does anyone know where I should first look to solve this problem? I’m itching to get this fine piece of machinery back on the road!
This is my first 911 and I don’t want to take any chances with this freshly rebuilt engine. John '81SC Targa |

the oil level gauge measures the top two quarts of the total oil fill. just like the dipstick. you must only add or check oil level when engine is at operating temperature, at idle and on a level surface. hot oil is bigger by volume than cold oil. trust your dipstick first until you know the gauge is accurate.

You don't need a working oil level gauge to drive your car. Just check frequently using the dipstick (as you should do anyway). My gauge seems to track my dipstick reading nearly perfectly, but I still check the dipstick at least twice a week.
