High speed vibration in the front end
 

My car has a high speed vibration in the front end 170km-200km. 0 to 170km the car tracks straight and has no vibration/ and then again 200km-245km in vibration. Where should I start to troubleshoot? I been to the Porsche Regensburg and they said it's fine- (cause they did not test drive it fast). While I was there, I saw a 997 GT2 with snow tires and salt all over it!!:eek: Could not believe it how people can treat a car! I don't even think the GT2 is even in the US yet?

The vibration is from 170Km-200Km.

First thing I would start with is a high-speed balance of the front wheels/tyres.

Find a good Porsche Independent garage to check out the problem.
Stay away from the dealer is possible, I would look at the wheel balance as an issue.

I have dealt with vehicles that had front suspension/steering parts that were defective, that would cause a high speed wobble, vibration or wheel shimmy. I have seen where ball joints, bad front wheel alignment, wheel balance, or worn tie rod ends have caused this type of problem. I would take to a place that has a great deal of experience with the front suspension/steering, to get the components checked and possibly a wheel alignment. Good luck!!

You mentioned snow. If you are diving this in the winter sometimes a little bit of ice can build up on the inside of the rim and cause and imbalance, it doesn't take much.

Thanks for all of your ideas. This is the best forum for any car type. My last car was an E46 M3 and the enthusiasts there were trash talkers and did not know much about the car. I'm so glad I made the switch. All my buds told me I downgraded?! I beg to differ with them. A 3.2 Carrera is way more fun then an M3 any day of the week. The ride of an M3 with 19" is bone rattling.

No driving in the snow here! I only bring her out when it's dry out and no snow or ice. This is my first winter with the car and it's torture only driving about once per week!!

First things I would check are the tires themselves. Even small irregularities can cause those symptoms at high speed. Then, of course, as mentioned above, all the other components.

Also, we are all envious of you having the legal possibilities to take her up to those speeds. :)

What Markus said...classic symptoms of tire/wheel imperfections or being out of balance. We experience it a lower speeds however :). Welcome!
