Mirror removal...cable?

Hello!

What am I missing here...? I'm about to have my pCar painted and I'm stuck.

How do you remove the cable from my electric mirrors? I took the entire mirror fixture apart (now an empty shell), but I can't see how to remove the cable and rubber without routing the cable back from the dash and door (PITA). Make sense?

Any tricks to this seemingly simple task?

Thanks!

Tom

there is a special tool called a pin extractor that you can buy from Baum Tools Unlimited. Check out the Bentley manual for reference. I bought one about 3 years ago when I had some (ahem) cosmetic damage addressed on my drivers side door and fenders.

THANK YOU!

So if I am reading/seeing this correctly; this tool assists you in removing the electrical pin contacts from the plastic jack housing? My goodness...

Thanks,

Tom

I went to a local cheap tool place and bought a weird looking star shaped thing that had 8 or so different diameter pin extractor tools pointing out of the sides. Think it was some sort of GM tool but with a bit of care it worked to get my mirror electric connector pins out of the block OK. About 10 bucks if I recall correctly

I was able to push the female connections out of the white plastic holder with a very small screw driver. Like the kind for eye glasses.

I'm with DavErb -

I think what he is describing is a basic rotating leather punch sold at most hardware stores. One of the hollow punch tubes fits over the pins/sockets and compresses the tabs so you can remove.

The other (less elegant) solution is to cut and splice using solder and heat shrink tubing.

for the future I bought a red many?pin Leslie mfg connector tool. I haven't used it yet but I think it's recommended around here for the mirror? It also says GM etc. Auto stores sometimes have Leslie mfg products on the spin displays. Good stuff.
