1987 911 Carrera 3.2 cold start blues...help!
Hi Guys,
First time posting here, I have a problem with my 1987 Porsche 911/993 conversion. I am running a 3.2 Carrera motor 47,000, new high pressure fuel hose, tune-up, plugs, distributor, battery, spark plugs, timing, oil seals, relays, etc. my car runs like a top, great idle and just flat out purrs...except on cold morning's, I can't get her to crank over!!! Early afternoon's and early evenings are just fine! Could this be some sort of 3.2 cold start issue, and if so what??? Last edited by P_O_R_S_C_H_E; 12-17-2007 at 06:05 PM.. Reason: just updated |

No cold start valve or warm up regulator on 3.2's. How long before the idle stabilizes? Does it hunt or just run rough?

When it finally starts it idles fine, kicks right over! This of course if it's warm. It doesn't hunt or run rough, the idle is steady. When it finally starts, it purrs... |

Welcome to the List.
The first thing you might want to consider is replacing / updating the cylinder head temperature sensor to a two wire type... You might want to do the proverbial search (this is a common and much lamented problem)

just me
|
definitely check your cylinder head temp sensor. that helped with my cold starts
also think about getting your injectors really cleaned. that will help too

I would do the CHT also, do a search on CHT and BMW and 3.2. There is a BMW part that is the same as the Porsche for much less the cost.
