trim & targa bar
How difficult is it to remove, and what is the expense / process to change from chrome to black? Thanks in advance.

Chrome to black? IMHO I'd leave it chrome. I have the black trim on my 77 and always admire the chrome when I see it. I thought everybody liked the chrome. Sorry I don't have any info on how to convert to black but personally I wouldn't do it.

Take the parts off and have them powder coated. I hear this is not too expensive and it will provide a very durable finish.

I agree take it off and have it powdercoated, or find a black one used and sell the chrome or keep it just in case you prefer chrome down the road? I also prefer the black.
