high revs when warm

Hey guys. My 83 3.0L still holds rpm at approx 2000 even after a 30 mile drive to work. Does it sound like the WUR? How do I check it?

When my car had that problem it was a dirty distributor. Gunk on the sliding weights for the mechanical advance wouldn't let the advance return to the idle position.

Do a search on measuring the fuel pressure if it's not the distributor. It's not hard to measure the fuel pressure, once you buy the kit. I got mine from JC Whitney for about $70.

Hey Mack......my 77 had the same thing. Stayed on 2000 after completely warmed up. Posted info here. Everyone said before you start replacing stuff, messing with WUR, idle speed etc. be sure it's not a vacuum leak.

THOROUGHLY checked hoses and....yep, you guessed it....had a hose with a little crack at a connection.

Replaced the hose, idles perfectly.

Good point Sean, vacuum leaks are a good place to start.

The WUR gets blamed a lot, but most of the time it's something else.
