vibration under braking problem?
ive got a 996 2000 and there seems to be under braking a vibration problem that comes through the steering wheel if i brake from anything above 60mph, it gets worse the faster. ive had the wheels balanced and reskimmed the discs and new pads and the problem is the same. i know that the bottom wishbone has play in them as i can hear them sqeak over bumps and can saw the play on the ramps, can it be any other problems as i dont wont to keep throwing money at it..can anyone throw lite on this, also are the wishbones hard to change and if i do does it need to be tracked?

I know on BMW's if the bushings in the control arms ( pretty close to a wishbone) are loose.... as soon as you hit the brakes I would get a CRAZY vibrations .
If you already reskimmed the rotors (discs) I bet the problems is a bushing somewhere. When you have worn bushing it lets the wheel and strut get thrown around under breaking. Good luck |
Check wheel bearings for proper adjustment. Biggest cause of this symptom.
Then check the lower ball joint for wear. Then look at bushings......sounds like you should go thru the entire suspension to make sure everything is good......you don;t want to mess around here since failure is catastrophic. How is the tire wear? |
tire wear is fine will check those items thanks

The front suspension/steering may have some bad components.
Wheel bearings could be bad/loose. Warped brake rotors. Wheel alignment. The way you describe it though, it sounds just like the notorious BMW front wheel shimmy, which is usually caused by the above mentioned parts failures. Good luck!! |
