Post C4 Clutch Swap

Hey guys,
I have a 90 911C4 and the clutch is going out in it. Has anyone ever done this clutch swap by themselves and if so, how hard was it and are there any specific problems/obstacles?

Thanks
Kory L.

a large jack is recommended due to the weight/size of the unit. i use a big trans jack with a 2x2' 1/4" plate bolted on. i also installed 2 3" pins that go up into the rearmost exchanger holes so it won't slip off. when you pull the trans off the engine stays on the jack. people do it with a floor jack but it's chancey. anyway, there's a lot of stuff to disconnect, a couple of servos to pull off (don't open the hydraulic lines),but it's not a bad job, just time consuming. a manual would help, but if you're mechanically inclined, you'll be ok. don't lower the unit until the trans and front drive tube are completely seperated!

Thanks for the quick reply. Doesnt look to be that hard of a job. Just time consuming like you said.

also, if you value your back, when you get ready to pull the trans off the engine, use a jack under it or a cherry picker to hang it, cause it's real heavy.

This might be a **GOOD TIME** to consider a flywheel swap. Unless yours has been replaced it likely has the Freudenberg in it. You don't want to drop the trans/engine now and then go back and do it all over again in a short time.

What are the symptoms of your failure? How many miles are on the car? Has the flywheel ever been upgraded to the LUC or a single mass unit?
