Power Seat Switch - Question

I own a 87 Turbo 911 which has power seats. The front switch will only move the seat down, not up. The rear switch for the back of the seat moves the rear of the seat up/down just fine.

1) Is the switch bad?
2) How do I remove it?
3) Can I use the passenger switch to see if motor is bad?

I have the switch disconnected but there is not much erxtra wire and I can only get it out about an inch from the seat.

4) Are the wirtes in a plug that I can remove to free the switch from the seat?

Thanks in advance. I purchased the car 3 days ago. Here she is. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Bryan

Bryan,
Do a search on "seat switch", as plenty has been documented on the removal and cleaning of the contacts, which when dirty, disable the seat movement due to poor electrical contact.
Usually the switch just needs a simple cleaning of the contacts with a pencil eraser, or a light sanding.
Hope this helps...
Merry Xmas!

Corrected

Thanks for the advice. I did not realize that I could search like that.

Found the thread, fixed the switch, works fine...... but, now the other one does not work and also took it apart and cleaned. Not sure why.

I forgot to disconnect the battery on the second (due to shock that it didn't work) and when I was taking it apart there was some sparks, but the downward button still works so I'm not sure what it could be. I don't think I damaged anything.

Those little be-be's are tiny and a pain in the rear to keep in one place.

Thanks,
Bryan

Information

Car is a 1987 Turbo.

96,000 miles. From CA originally, then Vegas, now back to CA.

Interior in good condition. Car is unmolested... Bone Stock.

I am worried about taking the exhaust off to upgrade as one of the bolts most likely will break. I will soak them for a month with penetrating oil and then try. Well see what happens.

I will post more pics later. Thanks for the warm welcome. Merry Christmas.

Bryan

Bryan,
Dont worry about breaking a bolt...Most good hardware stores carry Grade 8 fasteners to replace any that will break or have to cut off.
Some replace the exhaust hardware with stainless due to its corrosion resistance.
Merry Xmas,:)

Here's a photo of the inside of the switch. The tip with the ball bearings is to put some white lithium grease on the balls to hold them in place during reassembly.

Fixed,

Well,

I fixed the switch, everything works great. Thanks for all your help. Now,
the other switch will not work. I took it apart and still nothing. Not sure what happened.
