Street tire suggestions: excellent dry, good wet
I have 195/65/15's now on my 7x15 all round.
They're old and need replacing so I'm looking to go to 205/60/15 which has a similar radius to the original 185/70/15. I do not plan on driving in wet conditions on purpose but I do plan on doing long tours around Europe. I do not see a reason to buy an expensive set of tires for this use. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Bridgestone RE-750 is a good tire.

I like the Falken Azenas on my 7x15s. 205/50s. They have excellent grip in dry and break away gradually. Never push them in the wet so I can't comment but they cost about $85 a tire. Seems stupid cheap but the perfortmance is there.

Kumho ECSTA MX or ASX tires - dirt cheap, superb handling, and all around a great bang for the buck.....

Unfortunately, the RE750s don't come in the size I'm looking for nor do the ECSTA's.
A lot of searching has revealed that the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position tires are considered very good and the price is not bad either. They're reviewed as being better than the Kumho ASX's. I couldn't find any comparisons with the Falkens.

The ASX is an all-season tire. Unless you plan on driving in the snow or frigid cold you don't need an all-season tire. The RE960 is also an all-season.
Falken makes more than one tire with the Azenis name on them. The most notable is the Azenis RT-615. I have been told that is very sticky in the dry but not the best in the wet. It also only lasts about 10K which makes it a very expensive tire on a per mile basis. You might want to take a look at the Yoko AVS ES100. Another bang-for-buck tire. I really don't know too much about tire models and I am not familiar with the reputation of the other tires that come in this size but I hope this helps. |
