distributor oil

I remember reading that this should be done when you change your cap and rotor. There is a small sponge type thing (technical term!) that I assume is where the lubrication goes. Question is how much to use and what type? Can DC 112 be used here or is their a better application?

Rob,

When you remove your rotor, there is a felt cap in the center of the distributor shaft. I put a couple of drops of "3 in 1" oil on that piece of felt about every 6 months. You could probably use 30 wt. motor oil as well.

Back in the old days you used to get a small gel cap with grease in it. The purpose was to lubricate the rubbing block for the points, thus increasing the service life between point gap adjustments. A little bit goes a long way, you need to keep the contact (the electrical conducting part) surfaces clean.

What a coincidence! I was just about to post the exact same question! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif
