The seats you see are the GT II I beleive, you can check them out on the Corbeau web page. Not bad construction but beware the rails adapters are a couple of hundred so that bumps the price up.
I am glad I changed my tired seats out these are way firmer and better grip. I was not into auto x at the time otherwise I might have gone for the Targa. Hope this helps some. Rgds Ben [This message has been edited by 86ragtop (edited 03-17-2001).] |

I have seen them in many 911s here in Utah. They are made here as you may know. They are of good quality at good price. I do think some of the designs could be a little better in terms of looks, and headrest functionality. I am considering the Forza(spelling ?) for my car after I get a roll bar. Funny thing is, I can't get them from the manufacture directly. I was told to drive 50 miles North to a authorized dealer. Go figure, I live within 10 miles of the factory.

I took a look at these at a dealer, sat in one. Seemed pretty comfortable with good support. But I didn't like the fabric they use, seems cheap and like it would wear pretty fast. I did like the price and the weight is okay at 27 lbs.
The non-electric stock seats in my '77 weigh 37 lbs each. I haven't weighed the electric ones in my '86 but guess they weigh 50 lbs each. I still haven't bought new seats. Still looking. ------------------ '86 Cab, '77 Targa, '85 toyota 4wd rain mobile http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/ |

Jack, If you'r talking about the seats with the openings for five point harnesses, I installed a pair of Monaco RS targa seats in my 78. I love them. The quality is top notch. I chose the leathereette because I have a targa and lather would be damaged by the sun. They are light weight, comfortable and support very well in the hips, legs, and shoulders. I showed them to my friends at Brembo and they were really impressed with the full race/driver feel, support and look. I highly recommend they. I spent about 6 months researching and am very impressed. The cost is easy on the wallet, too. I got mine from GRP. Don't waste your money on the sliders though. My stock sliders bolted right up to the Monaco after drilling a couple mounting holes. The Monoca sliders and mounting brackets raise the seat too high, about two inchs. I'd post some picks but no camera.

Here are the Targa RS seats everyone was talking about

That's them. I wanted more lateral support for track driving without going to a full race bucket, and I wanted something that could be had in black leather.
Now, the only trick is a slot for the submariner part of the five-point harness. I hate to cut brand new leather, but maybe a local upholstery shop can affix some kind of reinforced grommet. Any ideas? ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

The additional charge for leather -- and remember, this is for a $320 seat -- is $400 per seat. That seems pretty ridiculous to me.
I'm getting the seats for five and change each, which is still pretty outrageous (for what might be a $300 seat and $50 worth of leather). But it's a lot better than the prices Recaro charges for theirs, and I've heard good things so far about the quality of these particular seats. The price of beauty, right? I just got a leather dash for the thing as well. There was no problem with the ABS cover on the old dash, of course. But you get an idea in your head, and... ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 03-17-2001).] |

The only thing I didn't like about them was the covering fabric, so with decent leather I am sure they would be fine. How do you get them so cheap? Used?

Cmorelan, I found a vendor who'd ordered a set for a customer who turned out to have a fake credit card number. He was stuck with them.

Hey, on a related note. I'm looking for a pair of embroidered Porsche patches, each about three inches wide and four inches tall, preferably, and also -- and this is the odd part -- done in shades of gray and black only, as opposed to the normal colors of the crest. Like a black and white picture of the Porsche crest.
Any leads on where these might be available, or even of an embroidery shop that could work from a computer file would be appreciated. What are they for? Well, I'm not a fan of displaying any corporate logo on anything that I buy -- why should I pay to advertise someone else's corporation? But if forced to choose between a big green 'Corbeau' logo prominently displayed twice in my interior, and a set of discreet Porsche crests covering them up, I'll choose the latter. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 03-18-2001).] |

I'm just going to get a couple of cheap Sparcos, and swap them in for race weekends. I'll probably get a harness bar too...no rollcage for a Targa.

Jack;
The early 911 S site has sew-on patches that might work. (if you don't mind advertising for them) ------------------ Clint 73T mfi coupe |
