rear seat delete - just lost an easy 35lbs out back for $120

I am almost finished with my rear seat delete of my 85 carrera...I had already removed the seat backs, so that doesn't count in my 35 lbs. Bought my RSR seat delete from AppBiz...good service, fast shipping.

I weighed each of these and they came out to 39 lbs in total that I removed.

I added back this light weight 4 lbs insulation from Pep boys ($20)

The real pain was cutting this stuff for the seat area..

almost finished putting the carpet and RSR seat delete carpet back.

This is a really easy and cost effective way to lose 35 lbs off your rear...

I have the same carpet kit here, just waiting for the opportunity to install it. 35 lbs seems a worthwhile weight savings, I'm happy to hear that. Especially since no one could ever actually fit in those seats, anyway. I think I can see that you left the seat mounting brackets in place under the carpet? I think this is standard when installing this carpet kit, does it cause any fitment issues or look odd up close? I don't want to have to cut them out if it looks ok.

How hard was it to get the insulation out from under the seats?
Is it possible to reinstall the parcel shelf, and stock carpet, less all the padding? I'm always torn between keeping my car rather stock looking, and shedding some weight for the track.

Yes, i left the mounts in there...i just covered them with my insulation..the center one i may cut around it, or just paint the insulation black so it won't be noticeable...don't see any issues either way.

Getting the insulation out was easy...wasn't hard on mine in the least. I can guess you can probably install the parcel shelf and carpet minus the stock insulation, which would still save you a good 25 lbs or so...my parcel shelf plus speakers was around 12-15 lbs, but this is up high and rear you know - where you want to lose it the most.

I think the RSR carpet kit is the way to go though....

I like the rear seat removal, but I beg to differ on the rear seats

It's the factory front seats that cause the problem. With my Sparco Sprint 5 mounted, there is actually a lot of legroom.

Sprint 5 saved 20lbs over the stock front seat too.
