At Laguna Seca with Gijs van Lennep.

Not strictly technical, but in the summer I had the opportunity to travel to Laguna Seca historic races with Gijs van Lennep, Porsche driver and winner of Le Mans and the Targa Florio.

We travelled from Holland, and to be a guest in the paddock, in the Californian sun with commentary on the races from Gijs was great. What a fantastic selection of cars. I highly recomment this event. Here are some photos I took of the day: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks for the pictures, Jim. Would have loved to have been there to see all those great cars! But not only because of the great cars, but also to meet Gijs, as I haven't seen him since .... well, since a long time ago, when I used to hang out with his younger brother Hugo and having some beers together at the Black Out bar in Haarlem in the Netherlands. I since moved overseas, but tried to follow Gijs' career with Porsche and remember getting very exited with his win at Le Mans in the fabulous 917K in 1971! And didn't he also win in 1976 in a 936 (with Jacky Ickx)?

At any rate, thanks again for posting the pics.

I saw him at the Rennsport Reunion III in November. I also have a great Nicholas Watts print in my library called "The Last Targa" (below), & it is signed by Gijs. As I understand it he won the last Targa Florio, beating the prototypes with his Carrera.
