Anyone sending a car from the West to the East?
 

I'm sorry this isn't a tech question, but I couldn't find an appropriate folder to submit to.

I need to ship a 71E from Portland OR to Bangor ME, and obviously its going to cost me. Is there anyone who is also sending cars in this direction that may be interested in negotiating a rate with an agreed upon carrier? I know Intercity and some of the other big guys are unavailable until Late January due to the auctions, but I have found other viable alternatives (and am interested in any more you all may have).

I have an agreement to buy Earl Greene's old car from its current owner.

I too prefer Intercity, but not sure if I want to wait 4 weeks+. Not that I'll be driving for months due to the 60" of snowfall we've received to date....

i used DAS. very good service.

I just had my 993 shipped from TX to MI by DeMoise Trucking. They do a lot of work for Porsche. The customer service was outstanding.

Just curious what one might expect to pay for such a trip. Perhaps it would be cheaper to pay someone to drive it?

CA to CT was about $1100, with insurance and door to door service (literally).

I used DAS from Houston to Honolulu...paid $2,100 to bring in an M Coupe. Car was received in good condition, but there were times where it did sit out in the sun/weather uncovered.

$1100 is cheap! Quotes from Intercity, etc. are between $2000 and $2400. The real problem is getting carriers to go north of Boston (I am 3 hours North on 1-95).

I did think of driving it across country, but its one of the rare few that hasn't rusted or been subject to corrosion repair and the thought of driving thru the snowbelt kills me. I have been going back and forth on open carrier possibilities, but its still subject to the salt spray and grime on the transporter.

Ideally, I'd get it shipped to Boston and drive it up, but timing the weather and adding the cost of fuel and time kind of negates any benefit (short of the drive home of course:))

I am having a BMW 528it (sport/prem./5-speed) shipped to NH right now from L.A. Cali.
I used DAS and they are going to take a little longer than expected (weather), but price was right ($1031 door to door w/insurance)

they are good. they usually ship all cars to a NJ location first, then put them on smaller carriers depending where they need to be delivered vs. what pick-ups they have scheduled.

their tracking service is very cool as well!

Guys I run a car transport business.. ROUGHLY I charge $1400 coast to coast. BUT I need 3 cars from either coast. 2 cars is $1200 each and 3 cars is $1100 each (your exact location WILL vary). You can get the best deal if you get your car to a major city as opposed to picking up out in the sticks somewhere.

These prices are only good for as long as fuel prices dont change. I usually need 1-2 weeks notice.. www.safe-haul.com is my website.


We are very careful with our cars and use SOFT TIES.. lots of carriers use chains.. I almost gurantee DAS uses chains.. and they CRANK on em.. they really dont care about anything but making sure your car doesnt move (which it wont!).. We use nylon on the tires.. we dont even touch metal.
