Red face oil pump question

I'm rebuilding my 2.7L motor and upon reinstallation of the oil pump noticed it didn't spin real smooth. Granted there was no oil in it. I took it apart and everything looked ok. Oiled it up and now it spins ok but has a little drag when spinning by hand. How should it feel?

Sorry that I can't give you a definative answer but when I pulled mine I inspected the gears through the openings to look for pitting on the gears and also checked for any sloppiness in the shafts.
Mine spun pretty freely with only a little resistance felt. It's kind of hard to decsribe your situation over the net I'm sure but I would think that it needs to spin freely with no binding, kinking, or other strange noises. If in doubt...I strongly suggest you either take it to a mechanic or find someone like Motormiester that you can send it to for further inspection. I'd hate to fully rebuild a motor only to find out that the pump was shot and have to do it all again.
Good luck,
