Post New konis came with weird washer thing

I have a 71 911e Turbo look sitting on a complete 78sc suspension. When I finally bit
the bullet and bought the 4 new shocks, I had a strange problem. The front koni inserts I put in(boge strut)came with very small shock tower rubbers and the sleeve keeper. My 71 originally had a Huge rubber, which I proceeded to knock out to put these other ones in there.***Should I have done this??
The style of rubber is completely different!
ALSO**there were 2 metal rings that came with the front inserts..they have no thread on them-they are clad plated--what are these for? The instructions are vauge to say the least............

Thanks.........S

the rings may be used to center the top of the insert before installing the cap. the rubbers are probably ok. too tall limits the travel.
