Post Porsche changing styling of 911

Does anybody know if Porsche is going to get rid of the boxster front for the 2002 911's? As soon as they do that, I'll buy one. I can't stand that boxster front.

Don't hold your breath, the new "911" will never look like the classic 911. It is a very different car now. Buy a 964 then you get the classic look and newer car technology.

There will be an Autumn 2001 facelift of the 911 (sold as a 2002 model). Different headlamps (Turbo), frt. & rr. bumpers, more power. There's also a Targa version.
There will be a new 911 in 200X (company secret, but figure out the usual model life and you will know when).

there's a redesign of the 996 coming out in 2003 i believe, also a facelift for the 986.

what's wrong with the Boxster? i think it looks great. another fantastic Lagaay design.

what do you think of this Porsche:

Obin,

Any idea what the 2003 911 will look like? The boxster looks nice, but the hybrid 911 w/ boxster front looks horrible.
IMHO

That looks like the cockpit of an Airbus A320 judging by the side stick.

all that i've seen are spy photos, which are never too precise. from what i can see, i think that the headlights may turn to more oval and less "fried egg" like the early 996s.

I spotted the airplane as a Porsche right away. It has the same "Nadelstreifen Sitzbezug" as my 3.2 has....

How disgusting. The 911 was insulted by the Boxster. Now the Boxster is being insulted by the minivan. That can't be for real. I wish the 2002 911 would insult the new Carrera GT, then...

Fear not, the picture of the Porsche minivan is from about 7 years ago when the minivan market was booming. Porsche isn't planning on producing a minivan and noone knows what the SUV is going to look like. However I think that Porsche going into the SUV market is not a bad idea. Reason why, its going to be extremely high performance SUV. I know of several Porsche owners who currently own SUVs, including the X5 and 320 and are waiting to buy the Porsche. I don't believe that the SUV is going to hurt Porsche's reputation. Heck, they've produced tractors, trucks, plane engines, and generators in the past, why not a SUV. Whatever they do I think we should support them as most of us will learn to like it, just like people, including me, are becoming attracted to the 996. With the Carrera GT coming out, the turbo, Boxster, 911, and GT2, Porsche still is doing alot of things right. I also can't wait for their next prototype race car.

Holy crap. I'm gonna trade in my 911 on a Toyota.

Or maybe a Hyundai. That'll better fit my new "don't spend no money" philosophy.

Not really.

Anyone else out there think the current economic situation makes the SUV market look a bit flash-in-the-pan-ish?

Especially since this whole downturn was started by rising oil/gas prices?

What is it with magazines anymore? They just take a Boxster/911 front end and tack it on...anything. Throw some Porsche-style wheels on it and suddenly everyone speculates that it's Porsche's next big thing.

Whatever. I call it BS. Varerra? The Porsche Station Wagon? What's next, a monster truck with fried egg headlights?

just remember that the original 911 turbo was brought out right at the peak of the oil crisis. tree-huggers all around the world gasped when Porsche brought out a vehicle that defied the entire "slow down, drive a cheap car" feeling of the era. also, the 928 with it's big V8 engine was brought out then too. the first 924 was released with a more powerful engine than what would be found in later models. they had to strangle the engine for it to be "acceptible" to the american market... and they still sold like hotcakes. all this was done during the oil crisis.

pretty bold if you ask me

I bet the side sticks on that Airbus A320 have a pretty long throw. Does Porsche make a short shift kit for it?
