i have an 87 cab with only one problem unresolved since I bought it 6 months ago. the passenger door compartment under the armrest has gotten out of shape and the non hinge side of the armrest now sits just inside the compartment when closed, not on top. the front screw inside the pocket appears to have had too much pressure on it and split the plastic forming the front of the pocket allowing it to get out of shape. by applying moderate pressure it goes back in shape, but does not hold if released.
the panel and all else is in excellent shape. is there a trick to repairing this without taking off the panel. any and all suggestions are welcome thanks ------------------ 1987 cab |

The pocket is a very easy removal , just a couple of screws!
Try this if you want to save money otherwise you can buy repro pockets thru various sources: http://www.myler.org/PoorMansPorsche http://www.rpm.com.au/911/html/tech_index.html Good Luck! ------------------ Bob 1982 911SC Targa PCA - Founders Region |

I repaired both of mine on my 89 coupe. Remove the pocket entirely. It only takes a few minutes and is much easier to repair this way. I cut two pieces of black plastic. You can obtain this from a car installation place or any plastic laying around. Cut the pieces to fit the front and back of the cracked area. Sand with coarse sandpaper all glueing surfaces. It also helps to drill several small holes in the area of the crack to allow the epoxy to reach both sides for strength. Once fitted, I used a flexible parts epoxy on both sides and then clamped the whole thing under light pressure until set. I then used some black vinyl from a fabric store to cover the visible work inside the pocket, glued and trimed. Retapped the whole with a larger black trim screw with a bigger washer available from any autoparts store. Has held up well for the past 2 years.
