My dual series coolers are finally plumbed, with five 45-degree turns and one 90-degree in the circuit. It's actually pretty simple, with both coolers mounted upside down, one in each wheel well, with two flexible lines running under the lip of the front spoiler, connecting them.
I took it out for a 40-mile coast and canyon run, with the spoiler down and the cooling fan off, trying to get the temperatures above 210. The engine heats up normally, but the coolers seem to be doing a good job of stopping the increase once the thermostat gets thrown. I couldn't get it above 210. No noticeable pressure drop when the thermostat kicks in, although I haven't watched that happen at idle. I've now got a 13 or 14 quart system, I think. Work notwithstanding, I'm going to try to sneak out this weekend to test it on the track at Buttonwillow. I'll keep my fingers crossed. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

Sounds great, Jack! Perhaps you missed my post to your question about gear oil temperature in your 915?
http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/006878.html I'll repeat it here ... how about a nice 3-1/8" aircraft head temp. gauge to monitor your front oil cooler temp and your 915 temp at the same time? Wick's Aircraft has one and a choice of thermocouple probes/sensors at this URL: http://www.wicksaircraft.com/showPage.phtml?pagenum=201 Here is a pic: ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 03-22-2001).] |

Thanks, Warren. I did miss that, somehow.
It makes me think that there are probably a few gauges that would be smart additions to the 911 cockpit, and that I could mount two or three either in the center console or under the dash. A dual Cylinder Head Temperature gauge for transaxle temperature and remote oil cooler temperature is one. A voltmeter is another. I guess a third could be outside temperature, but I'll bet I'm missing something else that would be more useful. Anybody got ideas on best sizes for the gauges and best locations for placement? ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |
