I have a couple of questions;
-are cam housing from a 2.2 and 2.4 interchangable? -Is there a diff between the left and right cam housings, are they interchangable. my left cam housing from my 2.2 has the oil pump from the sporto and seems to be wore on the bearing journals. I have a set from a 2.4T motor w/o the oil pump and was wondering if it would fit. |

Yes, you can use the 2.4 housings, and both sides are the same part.
Loctite 574 or 518 is the preferred sealant ... and it is recommended that Loctite 'Locquic N 7649 Accelerator' be used to prime the surfaces after cleaning for best curing time and strength. 24 hours of curing time is recommended for best results, and since oil leaks are the long-term malady of improperly sealed heads and cam housings, I would recommend following the Loctite guidelines! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Hello
1.) Yes 2.) The raw is similar and they are similar machined. However the oilgalery is differnt for left and right. If you have a MFI then the rear plug is missing. After machining the part gets the Date stamped in,. You cab see it on the exhaust side by just looking into where the cam will point ( normaly hidden by the chainhousing ). Also the feeding hole is on one side pluged with an schrew while on the other side is the open threat for the hollow screw. Make messurments and compoare to the spec book. The oilpump is boltet on and retrofitable Sealant is LOCTITE 574 Orange but 573 Green will work too. Sealant must resist high temperature aplications ( 200°C ) Grüsse |

Per my '72-'73 parts catalog, 'Alle' ... all 2.4 and RS 2.7 engines, MFI, carbed, CIS, manual or Sportomatic, use the same cam housing p.n. 901.105.021.05, FOR BOTH SIDES!!!

Try using a motorcycle case sealant such as Yamabond #4 or #5. Alot less expensive than Loctite and holds up very well. No leaks in 7 years.

Hello
Loctite has to be aplicatet very thin, normaly you roll it on. In germany we have small quantities ( 50 ml ) costs around 15$. Don´t know the price from the other stuff. Redo the sealing if it failed is One day if everything runs perfect. BTW Porsche used that brown curil sealer back in the 70´s, just try to remove as much as possible as it will block the loctite off. If you order the housing they come unisided so you have to finish them. Saves Porsche a lot warehousecosts. But you have to renew the oilgalery if you swap used to the other sides. The screw on the rear has a pin that squezzes the oiline to shut off. If you swap without knowing your cam will be gone in 60 secounds....... Some people striped the gallerys totaly and remountet them without knowing. So i know the time untill the fresh engine gets a sack full old metal again. ( Well maybe an T gets no holes in the piston ) No place for miss takes. BTW cam´s can get bend to. so first roll them over a table or messure them. and then insert them lubed into the housuing and turn them. Any rough spots ? Then pull it and look if you see the high spots. Do exact the same after you mountet the gallery on the heads to make sure that they are not twistet. Grüsse |
