Question Car sales tax

I'm looking to purchase a 911. If I end up purchasing a car in California, and live in Arizona, where is the sales tax paid?

The car will be registered in Arizona. If I was to purchase a car from a "dealer" in California, do I just tell the dealer that the car will be registered in Arizona and that I'm not paying California sales tax?

How exactly does this work?

Thx

you pay sales tax where you register the car.
If you register it in Arizona, you pay Arizona sales tax

I purchased a car in Texas and has deliverd by truck to me in Florida, you pay the sales tax in the state where you register and title the vehicle. You will need a bill of sale from the Dealer and make sure that you get all the POWER OF ATTORNEYS for the signitures on the title they give you.
Check VIN numbers and do a Car Fax report well worth the 20.00 Dollars.
I hope this helps. Email if you have any questions.

I'm not sure that's right. A friend of mine bought a car from a California dealership to be registered in his home state of Alaska. He had to have them deliver it across the state line in Nevada to avoid paying CA sales tax. I'm sure the dealer would know for sure.

That's why I asked the question. I always thought the sales tax was paid in the state where the car is being registered, just like the previous posters stated.

However, someone told me that California is different, they want their cut no matter where its being registered. UNLESS it is delivered out of state.

This seems like a racket to me. Can any Californian set the record straight on this?

I was with my friend when he picked up the car just over the stateline in Stateline NV. The dealer drove the car from Sacramento. This was done just to avoid paying CA sales tax. Maybe the law is unique to CA (wouldn't be the first time), and maybe it only applies when purchasing from a dealer.
