How come I only receive e-mails when logged-in?
It seems that the only time I receive an e-mail that there's been a reply to a thread I've subscribed-to is when I'm logged-in on the Pelican site. Is that normal? Is there a way I can receive notification e-mails regardless of whether I'm logged in?
Thanks. |

Is your mailbox pretty full?
Turned out my sent box was full... I didn't know that it saved sent mail as well, and my mailbox was always full or close to it even though my inbox was nearly empty... |

While I have opted to get email notifications and stay logged in, I only get notifications as a pop-up window when I am viewing a Pelican page. I PM'd Wayne about this and he replied that it was "probably" associated with my computer. I'm on a Mac.

Make sure the notification emails are not ending up in your spam folder or being blocked by your email provider.
An aggressive firewall can also block emails from all senders it does not recognize, be sure to add Pelican to the approved list. |
Sometimes I see a delay of a few hours before I'll get a notification email. I assume it just means pelican is experiencing lots of traffic, because most other times it's fairly quick.
You might check your Default Thread Subscription Mode setting. |
They're not going into my spam folder...I'm just not getting them. When I'm logged in (like right now), I'll get e-mails notifying me of thread replies. When I'm not logged in...nothing! Very strange.

I don't have one handy to look at, but on the email notifications you will see that it says you will not receive FURTHER emails until you have visited the website or opened the thread, not sure which. Basically, I think you would only get one update (per thread I think) until you have logged in again. Keeps Wayne from filling your inbox if you are not active.....
I assume this is your issue. Chris |
Scott~
It NEVER used to be a problem, until Wayne changed/upgraded servers a short while back... However, I'm one of those rare few running Mac OS. After the change, I wasn't receiving notification of PM's at all. Furthermore, whenever I attempted to use the search function, or hit someone's profile, or attempted to PM someone, my web browser (Safari) would crash. As soon as I cleared out most of my message box - both in/sent messages, I started receiving notification of Emails again. Also, I switched to a different browser (Firefox) and had better luck with the search & PM functions on this board. I just recently switched back to Safari with no problems, after they upgraded again. My computer difficulties may be completely unrelated to yours. However, I just wanted to share that I had problems too, but it was after the server upgrade several months ago... Let us know if you figure this out!! |
I've noticed the problem since the server upgrade as well.
I use Firefox almost exclusively. I just emptied out my in-box, sent-box, PM box, etc. Though they weren't near the 300 message capacity, I figured I'd delete the old stuff anyway. Stay tuned.... |
From my notification email just now....
"There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again. All the best, Pelican Parts Technical BBS" |

Scott & Chris~
I just re-read both of your past responses... You're spot on Chris! I've noticed less Pelican thread notification Emails too... However, does this mean that if I receive 1 message notification and don't check it, that I won't receive notification of OTHER different thread activity I'm subscribed to, or only that 1?? |

Let's see... I'll respond and immediately log out. See what shows up in my email from someone else......

Testing... 1,2,3... :D |
ME to ME to .Since the change I do not get notification
|
I received PatrickB's 1,2,3 while NOT logged in. Did not get one from Afterburn 549.
Looking at two other threads that I am subscribed to and there are no new posts since my last notification but I'm certain I receive them independantly.... So... does not seem to require you to be online but that could be a timing thing in this test. Whichever the case, it would apppear to be "per thread". |
Patrick B - I'm on MacOS and it desn't matter if I'm on Compass, Firefox or Safari - no email notification on subscribed threads nor PMs.
