To help his nighttime driving, he asked a relative in Germany to ship him a set of H1 Halogen headlights. Though they weren't legal in the U.S., he never had a problem with any officials. Excellence magazine, August 2008.

my rant
DOT lens with tits for mechanical gizmo alignment indoors suck. E-code, considered off-road in US, Cibie H-4 sharper to my eyeball than Hella H-4 E-code Cibie appears to me the same as E-code Bosch and definitely better than DOT Bosch. Hella comparisons is a waste of time and $. I ran Narva 130/100w for years but I get only about 10,000 miles of night riding from them. I carry spares. Now I run Osram 85/80w which seems to be just as bright comparing left hella and right lens Narva at same time. Osram is "beefer" glass construction comparing them in your hands. Osram 85/80w pn 64206 is what I use. Lens protectors are productive. Street debris damages lens quality quickly. Different designs have different light efficiency. The best are a stand off "eyeball" but attract people walking by to smack them causing them to dent. The "glue on" that pelican sells are still very good but need some patience to attach. They last a long time with occasional attention to squeeze out bubble forming around edges. They also remain clear without tinting from sun damage or being stone damaged. They are mechanically great with stone protection. I tweak each lens side differently after basic alignment. Basic to me is straight ahead per text instructions and raised a little at a time till oncoming cars start flashing me on Low. Then for step 2 the left lens only will be turned further out tuned to left curves at speed. This slight tweak doesn't affect straight light for me. The right lens only is also tweaked for sharp right curves at speed + tweaked slightly Up to read road signs in distance. This right lens tweaked up and to right doesn't affect straight light or cause oncoming cars to flash me. my car would look prettier with Bosch E-code len's for city light driving only any crap will be good enough. |
I've never seen that kind of data for the Bosch lights. As they are specific to the 911/912, I doubt we'll ever see that kind of data. The other lights are designed for any car using a 7" round light, so the potential market is huge in comparison.
If you read the review on the Bronco forum, they have the same problem with the Hella lights that I do, namely the too-wide spread between the high and low beams. It is said that the Cibie lights don't suffer from this. I've never tried one, since I use an H1 light on any 911 that I expect to drive much at night. Maybe I'll get a pair of the Cibie lights for the 928 and see how they compare. JR |
