Transmission Shift Shaft Seal removal?
I read the tech article but still have some questions.
When you jamb the "hook" into the seal what do you actually mean? 1. push between the seal and shaft, then turn it to hook it and pull out? 2.push between the seal and trans case then do the same? 3.just keep jamming it into the seal itself. I have tried #3 and it just keeps pulling off chunks of the seal. Thanks |

Doug what are you up to? If you use the hook method be careful not to scratch the shift rod.
Did you get another project? Tony

This is actually on my outgoing 930. I have been putting it off.
My new toy is not really a project. I got a great deal on a '99 Viper GTS to appeal to my power need until the right clone at the right price comes along. I am impatient and didn't want to wait for the right clone to come along. Although I still don't know what that is... I got the Viper for a great price and could easily get out of it without losing. |

I use a drywall screw and a dent puller.

Yeah Mark
I had the car for over 2 years, which is long for me. I threw it on EBAY for a free listing they were offering and somebody contacted me after the auction was over and bought it. I am sure I will regret it, but life is too short and I have more cars on my list to try. Tony, where are you in Louisville? I am flying out tomorrow to drive the Viper back on Saturday. I guess the seal removal is one of those things that if there is a local that can do it in a short time without causing harm, it is probably a wise decision to make. I have a lift so I am not sure if that would make it easier or not. I am on the east end of town in Lake Forest. |

I would use only 20w or 30w motor oil.
As little as possible.

Ronin
We may be talking about a different seal. This is on an '86 930 and it is seal that is accessed from outside the trans. |

I'm figuring the appx 1" round rubber inside the shift tube. When installing you take off the tube and use a socket that'll slide in but stop at the hump. Remove tube to remove seal. sounds like I lost it again ps: I wrote about the input shaft oil seal...
