Tracing a short 87 Cab engine compartment light

The gray wire that goes to the engine compartment light fixture/switch is shorted to ground. ( no bulb in fixture) If I disconnect the 3 conductor connector that feeds the upper brake light and engine light fixture, I can measure a short between gray and brown (ground) in the harness that exits the engine compartment near the passenger side rear shock. Does anyone know where the other end of this gray wire can be found? I am guessing that this circuit must have been disabled at some point or I would be blowing fuses.

I have searched my Bentley but I can find no clue. Any help would be very much appreciated.
