Gage surround material gaps - how to fix?
How do you fix these gaps outlined in the green in the picture below. I thought maybe the gage just needed shifted around a bit, but they seem to be where they want to be. Just about all of the areas around my gages are like this to some degree:

Sharpie? :D
Shane, I'm guessing since you have a cab with the top down a lot, the vinyl facing has shrunk. |
yep, that is what it looks like, but wanted to make sure that was the case before I decided it would have to eventually be recovered. Is that going to be the only option? I hate to say it, but I was starting to consider a gage surround of some sort.

two words my friend.
leather boots. :D you should be able to pull your steering wheel off and gauges out and glue in a new facing. |

Hi, I know exactly what you are talking about. It IS due to weather/age shrinkage of the cover material. You have 2 or 3 options:
1. You can pull the gauges, and sort of massage the rubber trim rings, so they will cover better. 2. You can replace the dash gauge cover facing material 3. Get a fine point Sharpie, and just color in the exposed material that is around the gauges. I have seen all 3 different choices done, and they all look just like they should. Whichever way you go, you should have satisfactory results. Good luck!! |
OK, tears are running down my face!!!!!!!!!! I had forgotten all about that thread.:D

Pull all the gauges and simply recover the dash. You can also try Madera Concepts, they do dash faces for the whole interior. Rosewood veneer, Carbon Fiber, etc....high class stuff. They do restorations for vintage Jaguars, Bentley, Aston Martin etc....
They are local to me in Santa Barbara County and should be on the web. |
That's right. Didn't you just do a CF gage surround on one of your's Mike?
|
Didn't just do it....the gauge backing has been like that for quite awhile. Probably about 5+ years in a cabriolet that usually has the top down and full sun being on the west coast. It's held up pretty well.
But everyone noticed the CF when I posted pics in the thread with the new 964 gauges in my SC..... |

It would be great to have Scott with us but you are right. Danged Bimmer would fly before, can't imagine now. We need to get Rarly to come up from Huntsville. No further than the Memphis guys would drive. OK, back on thread...........magic marker:p |
