I just bought a 67 rolling chassis and want to know what is needed to convert it to the newer bumpers/rear reflector? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Please don't! I know I can't talk since I converted my 72 but the pre-69 short wheelbase 911s are too vintage and historic to update IMO. You'd have to change trailing arms and rear quarters. Add in a center reflector support panel and reflector. Replace the front trunk wall. Weld in anchors for the shock absorbing bumpers front and rear. It would be way cheaper to find a 74 and later tub. Preferably 76-on for the galvanizing.
I'd rather see you do a 67R project with it. That would be high performance and vintage. And very fun to drive. Just my opinion but it would be extensive and expensive to convert it to uglier bumpers IMO. ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet |

What would you need to convert it?
Bad taste would be a good start. Seriously, those big bumpers would look terrible on that very early, short wheelbase car. |

Ok, I sense a lot a negativity here. I was just asking since my uncle had a 70 911 that was an 80s carrera copy, and it looked good. The car is a rolling chassis I just bought today for $300. It needs a lot of work (no motor, trans, interior and has rotten pans ect...). I guess I could restore it and sell it to buy a 76 or later Targa (preferable a 3.0). Sorry, im new to 9112/912s.

Brainiac is right mate, do a 911R replica and you'll really have some cred, you can still hotrod the motor maybe even use a 2.7, but the old shape is becoming more of a classic these days. 2 cents from me!

Save the 912! Trust me it's looks will grow on you. Converting the car to any later 911 look will require a lot of work, BAD work. Get a good 912 engine, clean the car up, and realize the joys of 912 ownership.

Dont worry, its going to be orginal(well, mostly). I already found out it has some neat options (Wood steering wheel, 5 guages, map light, ect..). I dont know about the green paint though. Im thinking blue, red or white. I have to start finding parts now (slowly). Something I can enjoy working on for a while.
I just found out its a 68. [This message has been edited by 72porsche914 (edited 03-24-2001).] |
