I HAVE AN 88 930 AND THE CLUTCH PEDEL FEELS FUNNY WHEN I PUSH IT IN, LIKE THE CABLE IS FRAYING? I WAS THINKING ABOUT CHANGING THE CABLE MYSELF? HOW HARD IS THIS TO DO? IS THIS SOMETHING I WANT TO BE DOING? DO YOU NEED SPEICEL TOOLS? THANKS FOR YOU HELP.

It may not be the clutch cable but the bushings in the pedal assembly that is binding. I believe there is a tech article that is on this site that refers to this problem. No special tools are needed to replace the clutch cable.

use a GEMO cable, not a COFLE. loosen the 15mm nuts that hold the cable sheath to the bracket on the bottom of the trans, pull sheath out and disconnect the loop from the release lever. remove carpet and floorboard, remove clevis pin/clip from the clevis (not easy sometimes due to rust and wear), pull cable out a bit and remove clevis and nut, and pull it out the back. reassemble in reverse order making sure not to twist cable over the accelerator rod. at rear, adjust a barely discernable clearance on the bolt between the two release levers, hook in the loop, and attach the sheath back in the bracket. sheath adjustment front or back positions the pedal up or down, for proper release, and comfortable operation.

If your car has a cable, this link will answer your questions:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_clutch_cable/911_clutch_cable.htm But, didn't we switch to the G50 with hydraulic clutch in 1987? Maybe the 930's retained the 915, I dunno. Nick. ------------------ _ _ __ _ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe nickshu@yahoo.com PCA -- Rocky Mtn. Region |
