engine/tranny rattle
hi
driving this morning, my 'new to me' '71 has got a new tune it's humming. it's like a low frequency rattling sound, only when the gearbox is engaged. it's not loud. but it wasn't there before so i don't know what it might be. and if it might be something that needs to be fixed right away. all i can tell is that it's from the rear-end of the car. also, got a mild engine shudder now at low rpms, in all gears, that only clears up at around 2,200 rpm. car pulls strong above that. 2.2T zeniths THanks! |

Start thinking about a clutch. You should check the clutch cable adjustment to address the slipping you are experiencing. The rattle sounds like it could be the clutch bearing if I had to guess. If you have a shop for service, have the mechanic listen/feel the condition to verify. If you are driving it now, you must be somewhere warm. Helps to put your location under your name. Especially if you want a recommendation for service or other events in your area.
