Would you consider this an incomplete repair for a missed shift?

Looking at a 79 SC that had this repair completed for an "over rev" less than 1K miles ago? Would you consider this a complete repair, or a fix it on the cheap then sell it and let the buyer deal with the consequences?
Thanks

This is a complete repair, but not a complete rebuild. If the compression and leak down test are now done with good results then the repair was a good one.

If it were my car, I would not have done it that way, but, it is not my car.

HI psjoe
If you are looking to bye/purchase this car ???? and with a bill like that and NO BIG END bolts on the parts list !!! NO NO NO , I would consider the engine a lottery ticket waiting to come up.

*Looking at a 79 SC that had this repair completed for an "over rev" less than 1K miles ago?*

I would say it is a expensive cheep job

"fix it on the cheap then sell it and let the buyer deal with the consequences"

half a valve grind for full valve grind price. where's the one bent valve on the parts list?

this will not answer your question but,
looks like they double charged for the same thing. isn't "perform leakdown test on engine" covered under "diagnose engine missfire due to driver over-rev"? after all, the owner must have told the repair shop that he over-reved the motor. the first thing you would look for is a bent valve.
yes, i would consider it, depending on price of course

Thanks-
The repair was from a reputable shop. I called them and they confirmed the valve repair.

My worry was other potential issues like rod bolts or rockers failing in the future from the over rev.

On a side note the car seems well maintained the seller provided the following list of repairs. The over rev repair is not noted in his list. Car now has 115K mi. on it.

He is asking $15K which I feel is too high.

15K is high for a 79 SC.

Nickatnyt 01-07-2008 02:49 PM

The poor bastard probably has $25K into the car but $15K is on the high end unless it is super clean and cherry with zero big dollar issues (as found on a PPI).
