964 normal operating temps
I'm getting obsessive, probably, but what temperatures do 964 3.6 liter engines operate at, after warning up, but in spirited canyon-style driving?
Mine goes up to 180 degrees in maybe three miles, and then (and this is with ambient temperatures in the upper 60s) hovers between 200 and 210 degrees very reliably. I haven't been able to get it above 210 in this cool weather, but I don't know if that is on the hot side. It seems to be the point where my engine and my oil cooling system reach a kind of equilibrium. I haven't had the chance to track it yet, where I imagine I'll be able to get it hotter. If you are using the SC/Carrera style thermovalve in the right rear wheel well. It opens at ~190F + or - . Optimum oil temp is between 180 and 220, at the lower end you need to change oil more often because the condensates don't burn off as fast.

Porsche published wear rates for given engine oil temps. The curve stays pretty low up to 180 deg. then rises a bit to 210. After that it literally skyrockets! You want to keep it as cloe to 210 as possible. After that, you are taking mileage off your engines life span. If you can keep it below 220 you are in great shape.
