Oil line replace question
 

I have a couple things I need to do in the coming days:
Replace the oil level sender (I know - worthless guage, but I miss it flopping up and down while I drive)
Replace the two cam tower oil lines (SC without Carerra tensioners).

With Wayne's 101 Proj. book the sender will be easy, but what about the oil lines? It looks like I will have to move the AC pump and maybe bracket to get at the right side, and the distributor to get at the left? Is this something your average garage monkey (me) can handle? Do I need the Bentley book to do this? Any "gotcha's" awaiting me here?

You should be able to get the left side oil line off and replaced just by taking the distributor cap off, not the entire distributor. I swapped mine out last year this way. I have my a/c removed so I don't know if the compressor bracket also has to come out. If it does, there is a lower bolt that is a real bear to remove. I only took mine out while the engine was out. Make sure you have new crush washers and be careful not to overtighten the hollow bolts. They will twist off in two pieces.

So this is something relatively easy to break me into the Porsche DIY world?

if the oil line nut loosens up and doesn't want to take the lower case fitting with it, just removing the cap will do it. otherwide the distributor comes out. right side requires compressor off and the top part of the A/C bracket off. 10 minutes.

Not sure about an SC, but I think the only reason I had to take the AC bracket off on my 88 was to get to the tensioner oil line connection. If you don't have tensioners, you might be able to leave the AC bracket in place. AC bracket took me 8 hours to remove. 10 minutes for the bracket, 7 hours 50 minutes for the muffler so I could get to the bracket bolts....

I occasionally wonder if Walt Fricke's fantastic fuel line fix could be applied to these oil lines ...

They are relatively cheap ... still, I hate to waste money.
Edit: Upon re-reading this, I am clearly a moron, as I hate to waste money, yet own a 911.
