Took my friend out for a joyride in the new C-2 today after fixing his 81SC. We hit I-90 and after the traffic cleared up, my right foot suddenly and mysteriously became inexplicably heavy! At about 120mph I hit the HOV lane and kept it there until I saw the far side of 150mph. That is until I saw the State Trooper on the right shoulder with the flashing yellows. Then suddenly my right foot became light again, moved over about 4 inches and became REALLY heavy! Oh - my - GOD! Talk about hand-of-god stopping power! We were doing 60 by the time we passed her. My buddy said she was looking down at something and didn't see us. (Probably dropped her lipstick)
(just kidding, I'm not sexist) Anyway, thank god she wasn't paying attention or I'd be calling my lawyer right about now. What's the Valentine One website URL?------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet 92 C-2 Cabriolet |

Good story. Far side of 150 is somewhere I've not been, but I did just get back from a jaunt in the 928S in a freak snowstorm. That was fun!

Careful, there, youngster. 150 is night-in-jail fast. I'd save that for a place where you can be certain that there's no one around for miles, and that there isn't anything flying up above that could radio you in.
Of course, I might be overly cautious. I recently received the State of California "Hazardous Driver" warning letter that you get for two tickets within six months' time. It made me feel like I was 19 again. (Never mind that one of them was from the first week I owned the 911, in Illinois, which took 11 months to make its way through the system to California, and that the other was for not coming to a complete stop at a neighborhood stop sign in the Jaguar.) I think if I get four tickets in a year, they take my license. That's probably the best argument for a track-only 911. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 03-25-2001).] |

Jack/Tyson:
I agree with both of you, if that's possible. Why don't you go toe-to-toe for pink slips and bragging rights on a closed course? Haha. Dave |

Okay! Just let me put the 3.6 from the C-2 into the 72, then we'll talk!

Yeah, if Tyson was able to pick his car, event by event, he'd beat me in top speed with the C2, and would arguably corner faster with the (lighter, I assume) 72. But -- one car at a time -- I'd say he's closing in on the perfect 911.

Tyson don't let Jack scare you too much. A night in the tank isn't so bad as long as it's not Cook county. (don't take the candy bar!!!)

Jack,
That last picture looks like when a girl cuts her prom date out of her picture. What you didn't like your instructor?

Actually Jack, you'd beat me either way. You've got more track experience. Nuff said.

Hey, Orbmedia, I'm sending the wrong message. I love that picture. And Pelican board regular (and POC instructor) Michael Marshall was riding with me, providing the instruction, when it was taken. But as I post the picture (again and again), I don't want to weird Michael out in any way -- don't want to suggest that more than anything, I like to drive with him. Hey, I want him to still give me pointers now and then.
Here's the whole picture. You'll notice, I also got rid of the video camera. And, since I'm publishing pictures of guys and their cars without permission, here's me as a passenger in Michael's car which is about the sweetest track-purpose early 911 I've ever seen. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 03-25-2001).] |
