I'm thinking of doing some stripping/cleaning of the chasis so that I can do a bare metal respray and I was wondering what I should be cautious for. How long can I leave the parts bare? Should I just dip it and have a body shop prime it? What parts have been galvnaized and will the chemicals or sand remove that galvanizing? Just give me some heads up, thanks guys!

This method worked really well for me and didn't touch the galvanization. A caution though, some "Media Blasters" don't use plastic, they use sand or something instead and can really screw up your car. Insist on "Plastic Media"

I am having mine stripped by a place in Atlanta, GA called UnPaint. Check out their website, they have an overview of the process.
"Once an automobile or motorcycle is stripped, a protective rust inhibitor is placed on it to prevent it from rusting. This rust inhibitor is water soluble and can be easily washed off with soap and water, making it easy to remove prior to repainting of the vehicle." They have done many Porsches and are very knowledgable...I would give them a call. www.unpaint.com David |
