New family member
Well I just returned home with my new toy. A '92 Carrera 2 Cabriolet. I really don't need another Porsche, much less a convertible, but the deal was way too good to pass up. It was way too easy. They really should make spending this kind of money more difficult. A fax from the dealer. A phone call and fax to the credit union. A trip to the credit union to pick up the check and viola'. All in a span of 2 days. I think I'm still in shock, it happened so fast! I have a new car!
Does anybody think I'm irresponsible for having 2 convertible 911s living in Seattle? I know, it doesn't make sense to me either. Especially when I don't have any other "normal" vehicles. I suppose in a few months I'm going to have to decide between the two. Or should I? Maybe I should trade one for an early S coupe for track events. What do you guys think? ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet 92 C-2 Cabriolet |

Definitely not sensible, but definitely cool! You don't have to make any big decisions right away. You can see how the new one feels, and then start to think about maybe using the 72 to put together a track car.
Get some pictures taken of both of those bad boys. We want to see! ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

Yeah Jack. I guess you have both my cars rolled into one. (well without the convertible top) The two cars feel very similar. The new one is tighter with its better structural platform, but the old one has better throttle response and shorter gears. The old one is more racecar feeling. Both are an absolute BLAST to drive though. Can't wait to test that 162mph top speed on the C-2. WooHoo!!!

Keep 'em both. They are different cars.
I have been trying to decide for the past 3 1/2 years which one of mine to sell. Still haven't decided. ------------------ '86 Cab, '77 Targa, '85 toyota 4wd rain mobile http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/ |

Think the only decision you should be having to make concerning your Porsches is which one to drive at a given time.

Sell both and get a turbo cab. That way you get all the power you ever wanted and still have a cab for the nice warm days.

Well it's official. You are now the envy of about everyone on this board. As one of the few people who currently own both an early and late model 911, please keep us posted on impressions to help with the never-ending debate between years. And more importantly, hurry up and get those side-by-side photos taken and posted to the gallery.

OK twist my arm. I'll keep both. It is a tough decision to decide which to drive. The 92 is more comfortable of course, but the 72 is so tossable and peppy. Both have quintessential 911ness. The 92 gets the nod for road trips and foul weather. The 72 gets the nod for terrorizing the neighborhood. Those Webers at 6 grand are amazing to listen to. The 92 sounds very much like a big V-8. It has a deep rumble to it. The 72 makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end every time it crescendoes past the torque peak. Yeah, I definitely need to keep both.

Oh, about the picture posting. I don't have a website or a digital camera. Anyone in the Seattle area willing to help me out in those regards? I have weekend and evening shop access to trade for any help for this cyber-challenged fellow. Any takers?

Tyson, if you can't get help locally, shoot a roll of film and send me the prints. I'll scan them in for you.
There are also those online places now where you send them your film, and they digitize everything and put it on the web, and you order prints from the website (or download the digital versions for free). ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net |

Question: Why are Porsches better than women?

Keep both cars and put a bumper sticker on each: "My other car is also a Porsche."
