Craig,

With your floor boards, you should consider rennline, I have them in black it would finish of that part of the car nicley.

Hey Adam,

Yes, I'm a Sydney sider, and a PCNSW member. Have never been to a club meeting unfortunately though - time is always too tight!

When this car is completed I'm hoping to do some club runs.

Do you recall what was make and where did you buy that special muffler?
I do have one 930 in Sydney and I am in process to modify original muffler and idea came just to use muffler like you have; in/out in one end and then just to have 180deg. elbow in opposite end.

PS. My car is going to have 3.0RS look too, rear wing will be just Carrera / early turbo wing where I have made space for intercooler. Will post some pics once I manage to get more parts ready.

What brand of quick release is that ? Is it a ball lock quick release or a pin system ?

Time for some more updates!

Firstly, their is the one-off custom plexi rear quarter windows. The goal here was a much flusher fit to the body, extreme light weight, and an inconspicuous look. The material is 3mm thick for lightweight, and uses a lightweight plywood frame to hold it in place.

Here is the ply frame ( painted black ) and the plexi cut from templates.

Here is the frame in place - it mounts through about half a dozen screws drilled through the window frame. The resulting gap between body and ply frame is filled with a low tack silicon sealant to ensure the window is weatherproof.

Note in the previous pic the edge of the plexi window on the inside was painted black to hide the glued area. Now the window is glued in place to the frame - again with a glazing silicon.

The inside of the ply frame provided a glue point for the suede headliner. Suede also wraps the B pillar and lower section of the window frame, to neatly finish the interior trim to the window. You can also see below the suede headliner, which is a single piece of suede front to back. Not difficult in a sunroof car as the headliner trims up to the sunroof opening. The key is to get it tight and even, as suede has very little stretch.

Lastly the inside masking is removed ( when the glue has dried ) and the side windows are complete.

You may have also noted the 3mm plexi rear screen too. This is installed using an OEM window seal, although some cuts and re-seal were required in the corners due to the material being thinner than stock. Making the plexi a touch larger than the OEM glass naturally pushed it into a very stock looking curve when installed. More pics later..

Then it was onto the interior trim...

I spent some time playing with one of the Appbiz carpet sets that we sell, but ended up wanting a more integrated appearance in car. That meant using unbacked (stretchy) carpet to trim the area around the rear seats. This was also used for the side area under the windows, with a backing at the top to provide some shape. The carpet is a black plush style, and very lightweight.

Prior to trimming in carpet, a small amount of dynamat style material was used to seal up any gaps in the OEM sound pad. This is an effort to quieten the car down without adding significant weight. Removing the sound pad itself would reduce weight, but at this point I'm happy to compromise a little to ensure the car is pleasant on the road.

The carpet is installed with some pre-stretching done. Cuts had to be made at the rear seat bottoms, which will be covered by custom pieces.

The rest of the carpet is glued in place. Trimming this rear seat area alone was about a 4 hour job.. Some of the carpet kit is also used - the rear deck piece, front footwells and mats will be used. The custom centre console ( for the raised shifter etc ) is trimmed in matching black carpet too. Where applicable ( the sill panels for example ) a backed carpet is used for more durability.

There is still a short list of things to do - front grille mesh, custom carbon removeable sunroof insert, carbon rear reflector piece, and suspension ride height setup and alignment. We are getting close however! Here's a teaser of the car on it's wheels..

Just a couple of quick shots as work continues..

The Pole Positions are in place, complete with their backs painted in Mexico Blue.

And torsion bars have been re-indexed and ride height set. The car will go for a full alignment and corner balancing when complete.

Door trims are now in place, and wiring has been completed save the stereo. Not sure where speakers are going yet - somewhere in the kick panel / footwell area. The current project is the carbon rear reflector and sunroof insert. The next update - hopefully a week and a half at worst, will be the car finished :-)

To answer some previous questions - the muffler is a generic piece from a Sydney shop, and there are further pics of it's install back in the thread. The steering quick release is a ball type, and for enquiries regarding supply of carpet sets and parts in australia - check the website www.911parts.com.au

I know it's a little late now, but I did the center dash vent update on my car too and have a word of warning: I had the dashpad trimmed almost exactly like yours only with leather rather than alcantara (did this 10 years ago - pre alcantara. Like yours, tho.) and after a year or 2 of hot sunshine on the dash, the upper cut of the opening bowed so I now have like 1/2" between the vent and the dashpad in the middle of the vent. Looks sort of crappy and I was thinking I'd try to remove the leather around the vent and glue a 'frame' of thin sheet metal or possibly plastic between the dashpad and the leather to keep the opening rectangular. What are you doing to hang the vent in place? Mine is attached behind the dash with a small bracket (easier than fabricating holders for the original hooks and clips).

Thanks for the feedback - I'm pretty sure my vent opening is framed at the top with a wire that is integral to the dash - I took very little off the top of the smaller factory opening - most of my enlarging was done at the lower edge of the hole. I'm hoping I don't have any similar warping issues. I've attached the vent via a bracket on the back too. This vent will mate up with the fresh air intake at the rear of the hood.
