Actually, according to the PP tech article that Wayne wrote....the brass type was fitted on the 80-83 euro delivery SCs and Turbos. The 84 Carrera got the first radiator type cooler and the fan was added later.
As far as I know, all radiator water/oil fans are rated as water resistant and will give excellent service as long as you are not an unterzee boat commander. The standard thermostat kicks the fan on at about 250F. I think that is rather high. I would rather see it come on at about 100C/212F, which where the water cooled thermostatically controlled fans start blowing. The thermostats come with a relay that plugs into your fuse block. The fan will come mountable, but it won't have a shroud, per se. With mine, we welded little tabs to the oil cooler, so the fan could be screwed on. But in my opinion, this is a job that heavy duty zip ties are the perfect tool for. Quick. Secure. Easy to remove. No corrosion.

I recall Bruce A. speaking about the US cars. Where basically, we are 1 year or so behind the ROW cars.
Thanks to all. I am off to order the 7.5" SPAL. I already ordered the Bosch relay round receptacle and relay. I will put a switch inside and turn it on manually, as opposed to using a thermostat (at least for now). ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera |
