Pelican Philanthropy

As we have all seen how well this community works when needed, example Early S Man (Warren).

Why Wait until it is desperately needed?

I think we (Pelican) can become a very powerful charitable group. I would think Wayne will donate shirts to the cause, with "Pelican delivery" on it, (not sure just made that up).

Why not coordinate a summer date to group together as a push toward something better than ourselves?

As opposed to having everyone meet at a spot and get together (Porsche Parade), my idea is for everyone to get their own idea and charitable cause together and spread the news in your immediate area. Get your community involved.

We can be more effective as a group than ever in helping others in need.

50 states, 50 causes for the USA!

Europe, Australia, Russia, etc...let's make it happen.

I want to see the photos and the checks presented.

I'll take over for the Phoenix AZ group. We'll have a drive and grill at my house, all money will be donated to a cause ( I have yet to determine ) this spring!

Let me know what you all think?

Mike

Not looking for a cause other than helping someone else.

Politics, are what you think they might be. Not in this case, but appreciate your opinion.

I'm sure we could pull together a local track day for charity. Several local groups in the Bay Area do it, including one for the CCFA (Chron's and Colitis Foundation) and the NASA Porsches at the Point event is for charity.

Sounds great!! I am hoping to organize two track days in 08 and 4 in 09. I would love to contribute proceeds to a chosen charity. I have some charities in mind I would like to donate to, but would also consider a chosen Pelican charity too.

Cheers

That sounds great Mike. I would love to participate in a drive and get together and finally meet you guys, and all behind it is a good cause! Hopefully the car will be finished soon for the drive.

Neat idea, Mad Mike. Perhaps there can be dozens of Pelican get-togethers (fun runs, etc) all over the world on a particular day this summer, where everybody kicks in a few bucks -- or maybe buys a Pelican grille badge at an inflated price? -- and all the money is pooled together at the end of the day to present to a charity (cystic fibrosis, cancer, Downs syndrome, etc).

Here is a group that I'm working with that includes cars. I am also active with many local charities, Safe Animal Shelter, HH, Cancer, Hospice, ect, like many of my PP brothers.

ABOUT THE DARK SIDE
In 2001, The Dark Side was established. We were an organization that went where no one dared to go -- against a club board. Our first event had a profit of 800 dollars. We added 200 to the pot and gave $500 to the Alzheimer's Respite of Hilton Head and $500 to start a bank account for the then about to be formed Coastal Empire Region of PCA. This year the Dark Side returns to its original roots-- once again giving to charity.

Our May 3-4, 2008 event will be dedicated to children that are "Driving to Success." The Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head and Bluffotn, SC. We have planned a Saturday event for them. Bill Charlton, our classroom instructor has promised to give them a class, the track is offering a Fire and Rescue demonstration and the Roebling Pace Car will be dusted off, placed on the track and the school buses that brought the children will follow it (at a very safe, slow pace). Kevin of Hilton Head, courtesy of Ralph Sutton, will be serving BBQ to the children. As the buses get ready to drive off to Route 80--we will be putting a donation into their hands.

Many of our regulars will be there to help out for charity.
Bill Charlton, Classroom Instructor
Ralph Maggioni, Head of Tech
Byron von Dwyer, Hospitality
and of course, The Travisons for all your questions.

See you there.

Car collector Malcolm Pray is a self-made man who credits personal discipline for his success. He walks them through his more than eighty historic automobiles as a visible and influencial message of success and then expresses to them how they can achieve success in their lifetimes. In recent years the Center has hosted more than 3,000 boys and girls, between the impressionable ages of 11-14 years of age.

Not to worry, don't need a running car for a good cause. I know personally.

I noticed your "Jack Olsen" picture on the self portrait thread, but didn't notice your Goodyear roots. Glad to have you aboard and we will be getting together for sure in the near future. Speaking of which, AZPCA is at Firebird West tomorrow, swing by if you can. I'll be instructing all day and might have a chance to take a few cars for a spin.

So much that we can do, just need to channel the energy and make it happen.

Racerbvd, love the Dark Side!

Cheers to all,

Mike

These types of things are tough to keep going. Take the Help for our Troops thread. After great initial response, the enthusiasm has diminished quite a bit.

After a certain point, people get tired of being asked for money, no matter the cause. It happens everywhere. Things like BBQs and track days are a great way to go. It gives prospective donors extra incentive.
