'76 to 3.0sc ignition conversion help please

My car has the engine ('79 3.0) conversion already done but the ignition was left as a three pin CDI and points distributor. The gear was changed on the distributor and it's turning backwards CCW. yes it runs believe it or not.

So besides the SC distributor (have one coming) what are my options for the rest of the ignition system?
Is it difficult to retrofit a six pin CDI to a '76 car?
Would it be easier or cheaper to use an MSD to fire the sc dizzy? I heard I need a "high vibration blaster" coil to do that.
Suggestions are welcomed
I'm new to this stuff so don't assume that I know too much.
Thanks!!

Bump
Isn't this a common conversion?

gungadin,

Nope. The '76-'77 wiring is very similar to the SC's and will not need much work to install a 6-pin CDI in your car. MSD is much cheaper than Bosch CDI. But I find the Bosch CDI easier to hook up by just following the factory wiring diagrams.

The MSD route is fairly easy and reliable and covered in many threads here. I know because I had help from the board...

I have had CDI units fail but never had a problem with MSD. I use the 6T and Blaster 2 coil, I know the 6AL is available from our host, the 6T might also be available.

The wiring is fairly straightforward and there are diagrams on this site. The only hitch seems to be that some people need the Tach Adapter to get their tach to read properly. I didnt on either my 71 or my 83.

You don't need any special coil. All the factory coils for CD cars (like yours) will work.
