the dreaded shreaded

After wondering what that slight ringing sound was in my left chainbox last week....then losing a tensioner and dragging a ramp through the timing gear...I have arrived at the resurection. Fortunatley, I broke all rocker arms and so no valves were bent. I was able to scavenge all detritus from the case and install new ramps and tensioners. Cams timed, everything bolted up and sure enough I still have a slight chain ringing sound during warm up. Once hot, the sound goes away. What could the chain be riding on that would ring (with rpm's) as a chain on metal sound?

did you do a leakdown after you got it running again? very unusual to not bend valves in a situation like yours. after all the piston has to hit the valve first in order to break the rocker. it can be ever so slightly bent, and therefore stressed , so the head might fall off later and kill your engine.

Geezus...the ultimate fear of every 911 owner. The dreaded tensioner failure.
You are obviously more of a man than me because I'd be in the ER with a brain hemorage. I can't see how it is possible to break the rocker arms off and not bend a valve either. That's one hell of an impact I'd say.
Good luck finding the noise mine did it too before I tore my motor apart. Only when cold...very odd.
Good luck,

Actually, I have not done a leakdown yet...though I am curious as to what it would show. I did pour gas into the combustion chambers with the corresponding valves closed and had no leakage.
Upon running it, I have had no smoking whatsoever.
