Should I do it? Buy a 2nd 71t for future resto?
The goal is to have my car ready to go by April. I don't believe in emptying the piggybank to do this, so I've been going slowly....BUT another 71t is available locally in the mid 4 figure range. Its got low compression on 2 cylinders and needs paint and interior work (new floors, torsion bar mounts, pans, and rockers just done to the tune of $4500, though). Owner is not certain but believes the 901 box and 2.2 motor are orig # matching.
I have my hands full with one, never mind 2. But it's the same year and model, and I *might* have a place to store it for the time being. Smart move or just use the cash to max out my roth ira for 08 instead?

If the one for sale is not Sepia Brown go ahead and buy it.
![]() ![]() Do you want to have 2 cars or is this a potential parts car? I would ask myself what I want this one to be if I bought it. This is from someone who has 3 '72's, each was bought with a specific project in mind. Having all 3 has slowed me down some as I do get distracted or parts come up for the last in line. I keep telling myself I know what I am doing.

being that the floors have been replaced, i would probably pass. best to find one that wasn't that far gone, and you know there's more rust elsewhere if the floors were that bad.

Do you have a real strong desire to benefit the public interest? W/o floors, etc. that is the real issue - you aren't gonna make $$ on it. It would be great to bring another one back from the dead! But, do you wanna be the guy to do it?
Or do have great welding skills and an overpowering desire to weld things? That would be another reason to do it. |

I saw that listing Dan. I'd say get it, but only have carefully scrutinizing the rust repair. If the welds look like a bunch of well-fed, "professional" sparrows lined up on the seams, run Forest run, but if it's a quality job and the car is relatively complete, I don't see how you could lose. T's have become the perfect "project car." Whether your own, or someone else's down the road, it's an ST/RS/RSR/R that will someday be enjoyed.
