Shelf Life of Oil Filter OC 54??

I've had an oil filter on my shelf for 4 years. Is it safe to use? I bought it when I purchased my 930, but never used it, as I had the oil changed when doing other mx at the shop. I can't see any reason why I shouldn't use it. Any opinions?

I think I have some filters even older than that. If it were perhaps twenty years old then maybe I'd be concerned. You could just as easily go to a parts supplier that might pull an older filter that has been sitting on their shelf for years. To you, it's brand new...

Can't imagine there's anything in an unused oil filter that would deteriorate in four years. I'm sure there are plenty of Americans running around with four-year-old oil filters on their cars, in fact...

Should be alright as long as it doesn't get moisture in it. We bought some filters from a company one time and there was rust inside. Come to find out their warehouse was close to the ocean and these had sat there awhile.

Termites and moths would be worrisome. Otherwise, I'd use them.

When I got a killer deal on case lots of OC54 filters, I bought enough filters that I will never have to buy any more in my lifetime. I only open up one sealed case at a time, then I put the rest of the case back into a giant size zip-lock bag. All of the sealed cases, are also stored in the giant zip-locks, and I keep all of them, in sealed storage bins. I don't see any problem with you using your 4yr old filter, as long as it was stored properly. Good luck!!
