How to take off wheel adapter when it's too tight.
 

I can be able to take the front adapter off easily but the rea is on so tight. After I took all the nuts off, I can make the adapter move at all. I spray some "liquid wrench" between the hub and the adapter, and also on the bolts but still couldn't make it move. I then use a flat screw driver to place between the hub and the adapter, and knock the screw driver with a hammer, still couldn't make it move. What is the best way to separate them?

there are a couple of ways. first, use the lug nuts and if you have a puller, pull on each nut evenly and if that does not work, we need a quarter inch spacer behind those nuts an pull again. it seems a little clearer in my mind.

getting down on the ground and looking at them again and again I see clearly that the area around the bolts (which the nuts are holding the adapter) are pressed in. I think whoever installed it last time torque them way too much, plus the nuts has the locking washers which messed up the area around the bolts. Now it makes it tight to the bolts.

I had this issue before and I used a spacer and then the lugs and a puller ( Knocker ) evenly around to get the spacer loose. seeing in your mind is not as easy as typing it. Do you have a puller?

RNLN - can you post a pic of what you have? Do you have spacers or adapters? Are the spacers held in place by the wheels or are they bolted to your hubs? Are you sure the lugs aren't bent and are "pinching"? Do you have lug nuts:

No, I don't have a puller but I think I can rent it at AutoZone. Thanks. I will stop by Autozone tomorrow and let see.

As for the quote, the simplest way is click on the "quote" button. It will appear all what the person wrote. Then you can leave everything alone and start typing yours at the top, or at the bottom.

I have adapter. They have their own set of bolts and nuts. The adapters are held to the hub by the type of nuts which has it own built-in locker as the lock-washer (with teeth). These teeth leave marks on the adapters and press the aluminum in, tight to the hubs' bolts.

The wheel is held to the adapter's bolts by the black nuts (your first picture), which I replace one of them with your wheel lock. By the way, they work fine.

On your last picture, the techart wheel. My adapter look similar to the one on the picture except the metal color nut is deep inside the bolt hole, it doesn't matter. I got the nuts off but the adapter doesn't want to come off since it bind to the hub now. Think about this, the metal color nut was torque too tight which makes the teeth on the nut (on the surface which meet the adapter) "pinch" and press on the adatper/aluminum and bind to the bolt.

I will try the puller as Axiom mentioned above. Suddently, I have too much problems at once.

It is too bad these spacers don't have push out bolt holes to assist when this stuff gets stuck.
Wouldn't take too much to drill and tap two or three threaded holes to assist in removal. Mind you it would have to be off the car and I don't know how often they get stuck or seized on the hub.

ghetto style:
1. Loosen the nuts a few turns, but don't remove them.
2. drive the car like you stole it!
3. remove the adaptors.

Haven't tried it on anything other than steel rims that wouldn't come of...

:D I thought about it last night but affraid I am going to break something, include my bones. So I stopped the idea :D

I think there's sufficient information to extract the adapter. I hope you do this without injuring the pieces.

Next time, apply anti-seize to mating parts, especially those having dissimilar metals. The galvanic reaction between the parts (in this case, aluminum and steel) doesn't encourage easy separation.

yep, anti-seize everywhere now.

Thank you all for suggestion. The puller works great. The adapter came right off. I used the one called slide hammer from Autozone, which mount to the lug/nut and hammer it outward. Funny, there is only one adapter has the problem. All other adapter came off by a finger.

Have you tried some heat?? That is the first thing I would have tried (and have tried). Even a propane torch will heat the aluminum adapter enough so you can smack it with a rubber or plastic mallet and remove it.

Thanks Jeff. I thought of heat because I read it somewhere but I tried the slide hammer without heat first and it worked. Slide hammer is the tool made for this purpose. The pic is below.
The hand-like part is mount to the adapter. The big stick carries the big heavy metal to slide outward. 1 end of the stick is mount to the adapter, 1 end has the stoper. When you slide the slider outward, hitting on the stoper, the action pull the wheel's adapter out.
