I am installing the AFR gauge and would like some advice from pelicans who have done it lately or others...
The white wire that the gauge outputs is intended to be re inserted into the wire connecting to the DME, HOWEVER, It needs to be extended because it is too short in reaching the engine compartment. questions: 1. is an 18 gauge wire found in an automotive dept can be used? 2. what splice should be used? a crimp connector?, a soldering of the two? 3. Will an additional splice in the engine compartment will diminish the signal transmission. (the reason for asking #3 is because I was thinking of using an old sensor and utilizing the CONNECTOR SIDE OF IT from there to connect to the DME CONNECT WIRE and that requires an additional splice) |

The splicing method and number of splices will not matter within reason. Bad crimps and bad solder joints are excluded from the above statement. Good luck, Dave

Really there are pros and cons to both mid-wire slicing methods. Whichever one you can perform the most reliably may be the best.

I would like clarification on the following if possible....I am trying to use the connector end of an old o2 sensor to connect to the DME CONNECTOR. The black wire is either steel or stainless steel and my DME gauge wire that needs to be connected to it is copper. Will a proper crimp connection will carry the signal properly? |
