Headers or Heat Exchangers for Increase in HP output?

Pardon my ignorance but I'm confused with which way to go to achieve maximum increase in HP and better torque for my 1978 ROW SC? Do I install Heat Exchangers or headers? I dont have smog restrictions from where I am so Im ready to go with whatever is more effective.

By the way, I also prefer a louder sounding exhaust note. Will these the above upgrades affect that as well?

Thanks,

Jay

SSI Heat Exchangers or Headers plus a 2in/2out Flowthrough muffler will give you about 10-12 more horses.
If you want heat, get the SSI's.
If you don't need heat, get headers.
Both require changing oil lines; do a search here. It has been covered many times.
Re-grinding your cams to a 964-profile will get an additional ~5 horses.

SSI are headers that also have heatbox tin wrapped around them

Thanks for expounding. BTW, What does "heat" do to an exhaust system compared to headers?

All is does is capture heat to warm the interior of your car and provide a windshield defroster.

If your climate is always warm and you don't need heet then go with the headers, if you want heat, then the SSI's are as mentioned above, headers with a heat box wrapped around the pipes to capture heat for the interior of your car.
