SWB adjustable spring plate too short?

I've been trying to figure out what's going on with not being able to get enough toe-in adjustment on the rear wheels since replacing, well, everything. Turns out the freakin' Sway-Away adjustable spring plates are 3/16" shorter than the stock plates. That includes the toe-in and camber concentric bolt holes and the mounting holes being 3/16" closer to the T-bar. 3/16" doesn't sound like much, but it's the difference between enough and not enough toe-in adjustment. The rear tires are rubbing on the spring plate adjustment stop-blocks.

I was under the impression a lot of people used these spring plates, but I've never heard of them being too short before. The only viable option I see is to have the plates cut and 3/16" of metal welded in to lengthen them, but I wonder if they'll be strong enough after that. That's gonna ruin the nice anodizing job too. I guess I could paint 'em black. What a stupid thing to have to deal with.

Any other suggestions?

Why on earth would they make them 3/16" shorter than stock?
