Where should the Oil Tank guage read when fully warmed idling after a drive?

Wife & I took the Cab out today to stretch it's legs so to speak. At anyrate when we got back, did as I usually do pull into the garage let the oil tank fill back up and then shut'er down. At anyrate today it seemed like it too 10 minutes or so to get the cabin gauge climb back up. In fact I had enough time to run to the back of the car and manually check it where it read perfectly fine, yet the gauge read less than half. It usually just a notch or two above the half way mark. When the correct amount of oil or just after an oil change where does you oil tank gauge read after the car is warm?

When fully warmed up on level ground, halfway mark.

Let the oil tank fill back up? That's a new one...

Nonetheless, my gauge pegs after the motor warms up. I check the dipstick and it reads properly. I assume my gauge is off, or not accurate.

Slight uneven ground affects the gage

I'm at 1/2 ga reading when oil mark is 1/2 between 2 oil stick marks on a perfectly flat surface.

Ryan,
If the dipstick reads full then your oil level gauge should also read full.
Check your electrical connections on the outside of the tank for dirty contacts or else the level mechanism inside the tank could be sticking.

This is how it reads, I just couldn't remember if it's suppose to be higher or 3/4 to the top of the gauge. Thanks for all the replies.

100% of the time, after an oil change and a drive, my gauge is at the top and I check the dipstick and it is at or near the top notch mark.

Car is 1983 911SC.
