930 1977 engine with 915 1976 tranny..issues

Just got this Fast "sleeper" from "Wolf Motors" it was sold to me as in "Great" shape, but 930 engine just beat 915 tranny..

First gear is just died on me...

Any one has a piece of advice for me and this tranny rebuild?, should i rebuild, or use some special stuff for this not to happen again?..

Any links may be to know issues about this 915, 930 combo?

Should i only replace all 1st gear stuff or else full rebuild..

Some one may be has the right stuff i need to fix the tranny?

I need help really bad.....

MiCk...

you don't have to have a 930 engine to break the teeth off the 1st gear syncro hub. 1st and 2nd can be repaired fairly easily without a full disassemble, but it's a good idea to see what the whole trans looks like if you feel the need. engine/trans out, remove end cover, remove the gears under it, remove the shifter guide plate underneath and the center housing. remove the roller bearing on the mainshaft, remove the 1st/2nd fork bolt, and slide off 1st gear. you need a puller tool for the toothed hub and a press to install the new one. new syncro ring, brake band, slider suggested. the stop dog and anchor block are probably ok. the 3 arm hub for the slider gets broken occasionally. 2nd gear really should be done the same way, because it's teeth can break off just like 1st. a few more details needed for reassembly if you go that way. best not to drive the car until it's fixed. too much chance of a loose piece of metal to go through the gears and cause serious damage.

Awesome Advice!!

Thank you so much...really great advice, i can get a part list and procedure advice for this to be done...

As we tear appart the tranny we will find out what else is needed in order to restore 1st gear (so far is what we can feel is wrong).

Ultimate answer, you Rock!!

PS..More Pics, and questions to come...

Be prepared to spend $700 plus for the parts: 1st and 2nd dogteeth (synchrohubs), 1/2 slider (operating sleeve), 1st and 2nd synchro rings, 1st and 2nd brake bands and gasket kit. Probably makes sense to replace 3rd-5th synchro rings and maybe brake bands for those gears while you're in there so add another $300 dollars or so. 915 transmissions don't do well in "stoplight drag racing" service nor with speed shifting.
